Lovespoon making in Wales has a long history. Each unique spoon would have been shaped with great care and given as a token of love and affection.
Join artist Nia Wyn Skyrme in creating your own lovespoon, for you!
The activity will help you to notice your thoughts and feeling about yourself. This is an important step in being kind and compassionate towards ourselves and accepting who we are.
Start by drawing
Sketch out your love spoon outline on a piece of paper. You can take inspiration from the collection of lovespoons at Amgueddfa Cymru.
Think about symbols and patterns that represent you and what makes you special.
Get creative with collage
Add texture and colour to your design using collage materials. Cut out and stick onto your love spoon shapes, images, or words that resonate with you.
Celebrate your unique self
As you work, reflect on what is important to you, what is unique about you. Think about aspects of your identity, culture and experiences that shape who you are. Let these inspire your unique lovespoon design.
Be proud
Write one positive thing about yourself next to your lovespoon – “I am…”
Why not display it on your wall or fridge as a reminder of your creativity and what makes you uniquely you!
