The Workplace Nature Wellbeing Calendar was co-designed by RSPB Cymru and Healthy Working Wales to support health and wellbeing through regular connection with nature. While it was developed as a resource for workplaces, the simple monthly activities can be enjoyed by anyone, either on your own or with colleagues, friends or family.

Research shows that connecting with nature can improve mood, reduce stress and anxiety, support physical health, improve sleep quality, boost confidence and self-esteem, and help reduce loneliness. Nature is accessible to everyone and can be experienced in gardens, parks, streets, workplaces, beaches, community spaces or simply through a window.

The calendar encourages us to notice nature through all our senses, develop emotional connections with the natural world, appreciate its beauty, discover meaning in seasonal changes and take positive action to support wildlife and the environment. Activities are linked to the changing seasons and encourage us to slow down, be present and notice the natural world around them.

Throughout the year, the calendar encourages us to explore local green spaces, listen to birdsong, observe seasonal changes, identify plants and wildlife, enjoy outdoor breaks, take mindful walks and share nature experiences with others. The calendar also provides opportunities to give back to nature through practical actions such as supporting pollinators, creating wildlife-friendly spaces, taking part in citizen science activities and helping local conservation projects.

Additional resources within the calendar include:

  • seasonal learning opportunities
  • links to nature-focused activities
  • recommendations for free nature identification apps to help us learn more about the wildlife we encounter.

These resources make it easy for all ages and abilities to build a stronger connection with nature and experience the wellbeing benefits throughout the year.
