Movement is a powerful tool for supporting both emotional and physical wellbeing. In this video, Teejay shares how dance helps her cope with life’s challenges, process difficult moments and reconnect with herself. For Teejay, dance is more than performance – it’s expression, release and a way to clear the mind.
She describes dance as a form of somatic body movement that can unlock trapped tension and trauma in the body, helping people process emotions, feel more positive and build resilience, while relieving physical aches and pains.
You don’t need choreography or experience to benefit from dance. Teejay suggests starting with a song that energises or centres you. Move in whatever way feels natural – stretching, swaying, stepping or any other way you feel comfortable with. The goal is to focus on how your body feels, rather than what the movement looks like. Let go of judgement and allow yourself to move freely.
After spending a few minutes dancing, pause and check in with yourself. Notice any shifts in your mood, energy levels or sense of grounding. Many people find movement creates space for clearer thinking, emotional release and renewed confidence.
This activity can be done alone for personal reflection or with others for connection and fun. All you need is a safe space to move, comfortable clothing and music. Dance offers an easy and enjoyable way to relax, restore your energy and release difficult emotions, leaving you feeling calmer and happier.
