Bead and wirework for my wellbeing

I’m a 40-year-old white British female – who’s also a mother, a wife, a sister and a daughter – with a busy full time job!

Why is looking after your mental wellbeing important to you?

It helps to keep me feeling positive and to cope better when life throws a curve ball!

What do you do to protect and improve your mental wellbeing?

It’s not always easy, but I try to be ‘present’ when I’m doing things I enjoy so I get the most out of those activities for my wellbeing – whether it’s walking on my own in my local woodland, spending time with my family or friends, or making time for my ‘crafty’ hobbies.

I particularly enjoy bead and wirework, either making jewellery for others or creating little wire creatures to place around my garden. I also enjoy having a go at other crafts and trying something new.

I enjoy the process of trying different things, even if I’m not very good at them!

Anything else you’d like to share?

Try to be open with others about how you’re feeling.  It’s not always easy but I definitely find talking things through really helps me to find perspective, as sometimes I build things up in my head into bigger problems than they really are.

It also helps me be more present when I’m doing the things I enjoy, as I have less worries whirling around my mind.
