Why is looking after your mental wellbeing important to you?
Looking after my mental health is important to me because I believe it helps prevent depression and becoming negative when faced with life’s challenges. Dementia also seems to be linked with an ‘inactive mind’.
What do you do to protect and improve your mental wellbeing?
To protect and improve my well-being, I try to keep both physically & mentally active. I cycle most days, belong to a knitting group (knit & natter!), bell-ring, which is both physically and mentally challenging! I also still teach one or two days a week in a secondary school, and definitely the students keep me young! The social interaction is definitely hugely beneficial to my general wellbeing. Feeling valued in the community certainly gives me the great ‘feel good factor’.
Is there anything else that you find helpful or inspiring that you’d like to share?
I believe that body, mind and soul are all connected. I believe that ‘giving of yourself’ makes you feel good. Our knitting group knits various projects for the community and when they are displayed around the town it all ‘puts smiles on people’s faces’ which is really great to see.
