Borrow, Share, Connect: Benthyg Cymru

Benthyg Cymru is a Wales-wide network of “Libraries of Things” where people can borrow useful items from their local community instead of buying them.

From tools and camping equipment to crafting materials and party supplies, these shared resources help people access what they need while connecting with others.

At its heart, Benthyg Cymru is about more than borrowing. It brings people together through shared spaces, encouraging communities to support one another, share knowledge and build relationships. Many Libraries of Things act as local hubs where people meet, volunteer or learn new skills, helping to reduce loneliness and strengthen a sense of belonging.

The project was created to make borrowing easy and accessible for everyone, supporting inclusive and community-led initiatives across Wales. Each local library is designed around the needs of its community, helping people feel ownership and connection to the space.
