Are you looking for a few minutes of distraction as you take a break in your busy working day?
Well, join me as I walk my dog in the Cardiff countryside. Just to be clear, you don’t have to physically come along. This is virtual exercise – I’ll do all the walking.
You just relax and enjoy the countryside’s soothing sights and sounds. Sit back, sip your latté, and watch One Man And His Dog.
We’ll wander around woods, admire wildflower meadows, and splash through streams. (Admittedly, my dog will be the only one doing any splashing…)
As a scriptwriter, playwright and author, it’s important to break up my daily writing routine through the diversion of our daily dog walk. I need that Thinking Time to work through any problems with my scripts.
The calm of the countryside provides the perfect opportunity for me to ponder those thorny questions that face any writer: Do various elements of my plot hang together?
How will one character react with another? And do I have I enough dog treats for our walk?
Hopefully, watching this short film will also enhance your own mindfulness, creating a sense of wellbeing through nature.
And, if you’ve ever wanted to become a writer yourself, then I’ll offer you encouragement. I’ll pass on writing tips about how to create characters – an essential part of any story. I’ll also reveal how locations provide inspiration, as I re-visit the setting that inspired the plot of my first TV drama script.
So? What are you waiting for?
Click that button, and let’s all go Creative Dog Walking!
