Reading Well in Wales is a national Books on Prescription programme designed to support your health and wellbeing through reading. It offers carefully selected books recommended by health professionals and people with experience of living with mental health conditions, helping you better understand and manage your own challenges.
The programme is delivered bilingually across Wales in both Welsh and English, helping to ensure that people can access information and support in the language that feels most comfortable to them.
The scheme covers a wide range of topics including mental health, dementia and general wellbeing. Whether you’re looking to build confidence, manage stress or anxiety, or learn more about a health condition, Reading Well provides trusted resources you can use at your own pace.
All the books are available to borrow for free from public libraries across Wales. You can either browse the collection in your local library or reserve titles online. Many libraries also offer eBooks and audiobooks, making it easier to access support wherever you are.
Reading can be a simple but powerful way to support your wellbeing. It can help you feel less alone, offer practical strategies for daily life, and give you space to reflect and relax. The Reading Well programme is designed to be accessible and inclusive, ensuring that people can find information and support in a way that suits them.
You don’t need a prescription or referral to take part—just visit your local library and ask about Reading Well in Wales or explore the collection online by visiting Reading Well in Wales
