This tool was developed as part of Cultural Cwtsh, which was an online creative wellbeing hub for the health and care workforce in Wales, created by the Arts Council of Wales in collaboration with artists across the country.

In partnership with the Arts Council of Wales, we’re excited to share this mental wellbeing tool, alongside with many other creative resources, with everyone in Wales!

Hi, I am Hannah Barnes and I am a singer, actor and singing teacher (and general creative type!) from Cardiff.

The three singing videos I have created are:

1. Land of Song

A three-minute introduction (with some wonderfully Welsh-inspired Acapella singing in the background, courtesy of S.O.W Acapella).

Introducing myself and explaining a speedy history of singing and how it really is in our DNA, and then why I think we all need to sing again.

2. Lesson part 1: Vocal Exercises anywhere

Joined by my special student (he’s a handsome one too) we go through some easy singing exercises to help improve your technique and build vocal strength. You will also see where you can fit these exercises in to you daily routine and around your shifts.

3. Lesson part 2 : Let’s learn some songs!

Songs – after a quick vocal warm up I teach 2 catchy songs that you can learn and get involved with. Sing along with me or why not have a go with some of your work colleagues? I then end with an encouragement to KEEP SINGING! Why not join a local choir or singing group? After all, singing with others really is the best thing to boost those endorphins and lower stress.

I really hope you enjoy these videos and that you have fun (hopefully you have a giggle at some of our captions), while watching and participating! I want these videos to be helpful to you, for your well-being, mood and creativity – to inspire you to sing, and ultimately realise you really can ‘sing anywhere’.

A bit about me

I have been singing since before I can remember, and I have been singing professionally for over 15 years, touring all over Wales and the UK with live bands and an Acapella trio called S.O.W Acapella (Sound of Wales).

I also love teaching singing and vocal health and I recently ran a workshop for the National Education Union Cymru to help teachers look after their voices through their careers.

I also create funny (well, we think so anyway!) online videos with my husband, they vary from parodies to poetry and can be found here.

I teach singing regularly from my home studio in Cardiff, I also offer group workshops and can even help with any singing groups or choirs you’d like to set up! If you would like more information then please pop me an email on hannahkatebarnes@outlook.com.

Thanks so much for watching 🙂

Hannah
