Why is looking after your mental wellbeing important to you?
Looking after my mental wellbeing feels like I am protecting my mental health. When I am conscious of my well-being and build in daily practices that benefit my wellbeing, I feel more content with life and better equipped when things go wrong or when life is difficult!
What do you do to protect and improve your mental wellbeing?
I try to spend 10 minutes a day meditating or doing some breath work. But I do find this difficult, and I easily slip out of the routine; when I stick to it, I really feel the benefits in the long run – I feel like I understand myself better and am more compassionate towards myself. I can react in better ways to situations and have more control over my emotions.
I also love going to the gym and weight training! I have been consistent with this for nearly three years, and I love learning more about it and having programmes to follow and seeing progress in my strength and confidence.
I really enjoy the time in the gym with my headphones listening to my music. I also love feeling part of a community in the gym and seeing the same faces and making connections with all sorts of different people who I wouldn’t usually connect with!
When I’m feeling low, I find reaching out to friends and family is really helpful. Even if I don’t feel like it, I know that having a phone call with a friend or meeting up with family for a walk always improves my mood and helps to put things into perspective and reminds me of how lucky I am to have a great network around me!

Consistency is key. Finding something you enjoy and that fits with your daily routine is important but also making sure you prioritise things that may seem small and have little immediate impact but long-term the benefits is huge!
