Swimming helps me to relax and be mindful

I’m a 31-year-old white female.

Why is looking after your mental wellbeing important to you?

When my mental health is good, everything else flows from this! My physical health, my relationships, my work and home life.

What do you do to protect and improve your mental wellbeing?

I try to maintain balance. Having a work-life balance, having a social life and ‘me time’ balance, time for productivity and working towards my life goals, and, importantly, time to rest, chill and do things of little importance too.

What is one thing you have started doing in the last year that’s helped your mental wellbeing?

I have returned to swimming. It is a lovely time to relax, have time to myself and my thoughts, be mindful in the water, and chat to people there if I feel like it too.

Anything else you’d like to share? This might be a quote or advice you’d like to give to others.

If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got! Do something different. Don’t wait for someone else to make a difference in your life – take the reins and protect your health.
